A summer research experience for undergrads
We are MURALS UMass REU Program, an NSF funded REU site providing 10-week long intensive research experiences for undergraduates. Our faculty are in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, and we offer projects at the interface of materials and the applied life sciences.
Application Timeline
Mid-January - Application window opens
Late February / Early March - Application review starts
Applications will continue to be accepted until cohort is filled
Late March - Accepted students will begin to get offers
Late May / Early June - Program starts at UMass!
10 Week Research Program
June 2nd - August 11th 2024
Free Housing, Food, and Subsidized Travel to Amherst, MA. Plus, earn $500 per week to do research at UMass

Who should apply?

Students motivated and interested in materials research

Students from any size college and community colleges

Students from groups historically excluded from science and engineering
What is required in order to be admitted?​

United States citizenship or permanent residency (required by NSF guidelines)
-
Previous research experience is not required
-
No GPA our prior coursework requirements
Before applying, you will need to gather or produce the following:

A statement of purpose (described in the body of the website)

The name and email address of a faculty member from your current institution who can provide a Letter of Recommendation on your behalf
